Ashwagandha (lat. Withania somnifera)
Ashvaganda means "the power of the horse." Ashva means horse and Ganda - strength. The main active ingredients in Ashvaganda are withanolides, which contain mainly the plant root. Ashwagandha also contains glycosides, amino acids, lactones, but also vitamins, minerals and more. The high content of active substances ensures a wide range of beneficial effects. It is nicknamed Indian ginseng for its adaptogenic effect.
Ashvaganda is India's most popular botanical plant and has been used in Ayurveda, India's 5,000-year-old healing system, as a rejuvenating and daily tonic for many centuries. Only now is the largest increase in ashwagandha use worldwide due to the incredibly positive results of recent pharmacological studies.
Ashwagandha embodies the very essence of the preventive and curative approach to health in Ayurveda. Ashvaganda operates at the level of the entire body system by helping to maintain balance in the substances and processes taking place in the human body. Ashwagandha is a small, woody shrub of the Solanaceae family that grows about 70 cm in height in India and in several parts of the Mediterranean and Africa. Due to this extensive habitat, there are significant morphological and chemo-typical differences in local species. However, the root phytoactive substances of both wild and cultivated species appear to be the same. Ashvaganda roots are the main part of the plant that is used therapeutically.

What part of the plant is best to use
Traditional writings of the Arjuveda, as well as the British or American pharmacopeia, recommend for maximum efficiency to always use the root part of the plant - not the leaves. The high efficacy of root extracts is also confirmed by a number of clinical studies conducted by universities and hospitals published in PubMed.
Why avoid products containing withaferin A
Not all withanolides are beneficial. Withaferin A has cytotoxic properties and is not suitable for classical applications of Ashvagdanda such as strengthening psychological resilience, increasing energy, supporting immunity, etc. In our extract there is a high content of withanolides (more than 5%) but without the presence of withaferin A. Withaferin A is mainly found in leaves and this is the reason why to avoid leaf extracts and to use root extracts to promote health.
Full spectrum extract
Plants are complex complexes of many active substances. In order to achieve the best possible effect, it is necessary to extract with emphasis on the high value of the active substance and at the same time to obtain the full spectrum of all active substances. As with our mushroom products, our Ashvaganda extract fulfills this. The special extraction process, which combines modern technologies and traditional Arjuvedic methods, preserves the entire spectrum of substances so that they can be synergistically supported in the extract and has a beneficial effect on the human body.
The content of withanolides is always tested using the HPLC method
The vast majority of manufacturers around the world determine the content of withanolides by gravimetric analysis, but which overestimates the actual content of withanolides 2.5 and 3x! This is because gravimetry cannot accurately separate withanolides and other substances and this leads to overestimation. In addition, gravimetric analysis is idiosyncratic and shows too many interdisciplinary and intra-dose variations. HPLC method, on the other hand, at the molecular level and much more discriminatory and accurate. Our Ashvaganda extract tested by HPLC has a concentration of> 5% withanolides. If we perform the test using gravimetry, the concentration in our extract will be from 8% to 15% withanolides.
